Is it fine to write (11100)2 instead of <[11100]>2 in the exam?
Is it necessary to write the ()2 if the question in the exam already defines the ()2 as type of the solution?

That will be fine, but we should also know (maybe from the context) whether it is radix-2 or 2-complement since that makes a difference.
